Weekly Schedule-10/24/2011

GO EAGLES!!! League champions and our first 180 of the year!!! :) Thanks to everyone who was there cheering on the team! Regional's will be a BIG meet for us...our goal is to place in the top-2 so that we automatically earn a spot at State. Our toughest competition should be Arvada West who finished third in the very competitive Jefferson County League meet with a 177.

Regional's - Wednesday, October 26
Competitors
Competitors will be excused at 12:00pm from school.
Lunch at Erika's house and depart around 2:00pm for Rocky Mountain HS (in Fort Collins)
Please try and get a ride to my house unless you want to come back to my house to pick up your cars after the meet. Coaches will drive up to the meet. My address is 2343 Dogwood Drive, Erie CO 80516
March-In- 5:50pm

Non-Competitors
We are looking for a couple of parent volunteers to help get the girls up to Rocky Mountain HS after school lets out. We have 2 girls from BHS, 1 from CHS and 6 from MHS so maybe we can have 2 drivers pick up at MHS at 4:00pm and 1 from BHS at 4:00pm. That puts you in Fort Collins around 5:00pm and March-In is at 5:50pm. Girls need to arrange for rides home from the meet as well but there should be plenty of drivers to help.

Food & Drinks
I have plenty of drinks left over from the Invitational and League meet as well as some small snacks so I'll bring those up for the girls but we don't have anyone assigned to snacks. Unless somebody wants to volunteer I'm going to say that everyone is on their own and responsible for either bringing something to eat or having money for the concession stand. Please let me know if you have other thoughts on this!

Banquet
Still looking for input on good and bad dates between November 7-15th. Also, looking at the Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving but know that may be bad because of travel plans. We really want everyone to be able to attend so please let me know if you have any glaring conflicts. If I don't hear from you I'm going to assuming that any day during the 7-15th will work.

Thanks!!

Season Update

It's hard to believe that the JV season is already over and we heading into the post season! Our JV team was super talented this year and in fact I kept hearing over and over throughout the year from parents and coaches what a bright future we have ahead with the talent on our JV squad.

As we head in to the League, Regional and State meets I want to make it very clear that all of our teammates (not just the competitors) are welcome and encouraged to attend all of the meets and events.

Upcoming Schedule

League Championships (MANDATORY)
Friday 10/21 - Gym set up at Paul Derda 3:30-4:30pm
Saturday 10/22- Meet 12:00pm Arrival
2:20 March In (Everyone will march in)
*There are only 5 teams in our league so the meet should run fairly quickly (2 hours) and we will need to clean up the gym at the conclusion of the meet

Regionals
We finished our season seeded 3rd (ranking was based on an average of our top-3 team scores) behind Cherry Creek (#1) and Overland (#2). Based on this seeding we will compete next Wednesday, October 26th at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins. The tentative game plan will be to meet at 12:00pm for lunch at my house and then we'll head up to Fort Collins. Non-competitors are welcome to join us for lunch and the ride up so long as missing the afternoon of school is appropriate. Parents will need to personally excuse the non-competitors. We can also set up a carpool to Fort Collins for the non-competitors that leaves after school. I've attached the meet schedule for your reference.

We should be done with competition by 9pm and home by 10pm but you never do know so please use your time wisely next week and stay rested.

Qualifying to State
There are two ways to qualify as a team to the state meet; the first (and what we are shooting for) is to place 1st or 2nd at our Regional meet and automatically qualify. In addition to the top-2 teams at each regional meet the next highest 6 teams scores from any regional meet will qualify as well. It's also very important for us to post a high score at our regional because that helps determine our rotation at the state meet!

Post Season Banquet
Please take a look at your calendar and let me know if you have any glaring conflicts between November 7-15 as this is when we will try and have our end of season banquet. I'm still looking for locations and am open to input so please let me know if you have any thoughts/ideas. In previous years we've done the following:
-potluck at the Rec Center
-Banquet room at local resturants (nominal ticket fee included in this option)
-potluck/catered event at someone's home

There are pros and cons to all of these options so I'm open to whatever works and sounds best to the majority.

Thank you to everyone again for making this year such a great one...this is an exciting time of year and I can't wait to see what this talented and dedicated group of young ladies are capable of. As always please contact me with any questions and/or concerns!

Race for the Cure!
I'm still waiting for girls to sign up for the Race for the Cure next Sunday, October 2. I was really hoping this would be a team event but have yet to have any registrants. Please sign up!!

Secret Sister Week
Every year we do a Secret Sister gift exchange which consists of 3 small (no more than $5) and 1 large (no more than $10) gifts. The gifts are given anonymously throughout the week at practice. This year we are going to exchange the large gift at our Broomfield Invitational. We will draw names the week prior so you have time to shop.

This is not meant to be a burden on any gymnast or family and you can easily create fun gifts for less than the suggested dollar amounts so get creative!

Gift ideas include: personalized items (frames, water bottles), beauty items (nail polish, hair ties, make up, body sprays), candy, posters, gift cards (Starbucks, Jamba Juice), toys, game, etc. Get creative and individualize your gifts for your Secret Sister.

Labor Day Practice-
We ARE planning on having practice on Labor Day, we will determine a time next week and let everyone know. As of now we are planning on mid-morning. This is a mandatory practice so please plan accordingly.

Calling all handy dad's (and mom's)!

I'm looking for someone "handy" that can help me with a project in the gym for our home meets and specifically the League meet that we are hosting in October. If you are willing to help (this is me begging :)) please email, call or stop by the gym. It will involve a little bit of manual labor :)

Brief Overview:
During meets our vault judges usually stand on a panel mat on top of the trampoline, not making it a very comfortable or stable enviornment. I'd like to see if we can some build a simple platform that gives them a more secure area to stand/sit, especially for our league meet where there will be teams competing on every event at the same time.

Let me know if you can help!

2011....It'a About Being An Eagle

We are so excited for the 2011 gymnastics season. We hope you find this site useful and informative. Please sign up for the follow by email function which will send you an email everytime a new post is added to the site.

As a parent we ask that you be as involved in your daughter's high school career as possible and one specific request from the girls this year is to have a true "parents section" at all of our meets. So please, don't be shy, get to know each other and cheer loud! (And new this year we are going to do a cheer with the parents before the start of every meet so remember you don't want be sitting and cheering by yourself).

We had an awesome time at the ripped and ready camp this past week in Colorado Springs and talked a lot about what this team means to everyone and what our goals are for the year. In case your daughter didn't share with you the video from our last night you can check it out via the link below!
