Team Breakfast
The girls would like to get together for breakfast on Saturday morning before the meet so we are looking for a volunteer host and F&B providers. As always this is never meant to be a burden on anyone just another way for the girls to spend time together. Here are my thoughts on F&B:

Casserole #1 (with meat):  Erika (I would like to provide one)

Casserole #2 (with meat):  ______________________________________________________

Casserole #3 (no meat):  _______________________________________________________

Fruit: ______________________________________________________________________

Juice: ______________________________________________________________________

I have paper goods left over from the Invite that we can use. Depending on host and distance from BHS I'm thinking 9:45/10ish for start (an hour to eat and head to the school).

Regionals - Wednesday, October 24 at Mountain Range HS
As expected we were the #1 seed and therefore seeded at Wednesday's regional. March in will be at 4:50pm and compeition will begin at 5:00pm (updated). I'll send out the meet schedule when I receive it.

Weekly Schedule-10/7/12

I can't believe our last regular season meet is on Wednesday! Every year the season seems to go faster and faster and this year is no exception. It has been a fantastic year and I've enjoyed coaching every single athlete on this year's team...I can only hope they've enjoyed it as much as Bob, Whitney and I have.

As we conclude our regular season please keep in mind that the non-competitors are welcome and encouraged at every remaining meet (Leagues, Regionals, State) and all team activities.

Monday
Practice                              3:30-6pm

Tuesday
Practice                              6:30-8:30pm

Wednesday
at Niwot
Bus leaves at 3:15pm
Early Release at 2:45pm (outlying schools schools)
   Sandwiches - Melanie Stelling
   Snacks - Jessie Jackman
   Drinks - Alana Hill

*We have decided because of how many girls live outside of Broomfield to have a drop off only bus at the Niwot meet. Please make arrangements on your own to have your daughter transported home from the meet. Overall this should make the evening a lot shorter and more convenient for those that live in Louisville, Lafayette and Boulder*

Thursday
Practice                           4-6pm
Varsity will practice
JV will come and turn in their competition leos and have open gym

*Reminder: Your competition leos must be returned on a hanger and in their original garment bag!!*

Upcoming Events in the remaining weeks...more detail to follow

Parent Cheering Section
The girls (and coaches :) are asking for all of our parents in attendance at the remaining meets to be loud & proud Eagle supporters! Wear your BHS shirts, sit together (get to know each other) and cheer loudly. The girls really do feed off of your support, especially at Regionals & State. As I'm sure you're aware, this is turning out to be a special year and the support from our fans is exciting and important.

Haunted House
It's become somewhat of a tradition that we attend a haunted house together as team and the girls have already been asking about it...as of now we are tossing around Friday, October 19 (early), Friday, October 26 or Saturday, October 27. Just be aware and I'll talk with the girls in more detail.

Tuesday Practices
Despite the calendar we will continue to hold Tuesday practices in the evening for the remainder of the season (Varsity Only)

Norther League Championships at Fort Morgan HS
This year's league meet will be at Fort Morgan (don't worry there will be state quality judges this time). Below is the schedule of events so that you can start planning for the day. Depending upon parent attendance we will decide on carpooling vs. school bus; please let me know if you have an opinion/preference.
Meet Schedule:
                   Open Gym                       12:45PM-1:30PM
                   Coaches Meeting             1:00PM
                   Timed Warm-ups             1:30PM-2:10PM
                   Judges Meeting               1:45PM
                   March-In                        2:20PM
                   Competition                    2:30PM-5:00PM
                   Awards                           5:00PM

Regionals
We will not know which Regional Meet we are in until the official seeding by CHSAA on Monday, October 22 but by all indications we will be the #1 seed (average of our top-3 season team scores) and therefore be at Mountain Range HS on Wednesday, October 24.

Typically in years past we have had lunch together as a team and then gone to the meet. Below is the schedule for the Regional Meet.
Meet Schedule:
                      3:15 P.M. Registration (check-in)
                      3:30-4:30 p.m. Open Gym
                      4:00 p.m. Timed warm-ups
5:45 p.m. Competitors line up for opening ceremonies.
                      5:50 p.m. Opening ceremonies
                      6:00 p.m. Competition Begins

State
The team competition of the State Meet is on Friday, November 2 at Thornton HS. Typically competitors our excused for the entire day and non-competitors decided if they can afford to miss the entire school day. Non-competitors need to be excused by their parents. We will have a team breakfast prior to the meet which is why the girls are excused the entire day.
Meet Schedule:
                       12:00 p.m. Gym Opens
                       1:08 p.m. Begin warm-up (rotation I & II)
                       2:12 p.m. Clear floor
                       2:20 p.m. March In
                       2:30 p.m. Competition begins (rotation I & II)
                       9:00pm   Approximate Conclusion

Event Finals - the top-15 girls on each event qualify for event finals which are on Saturday. There has been a change to the schedule from previous years so please note the following:
                      12:00 p.m.  Open Warm Up
                      1:55 p.m.    March In
                      2:00 p.m.   Competition Begins
                                       Awards at conclusion of competition

Off Season Practice
Off season practice will begin in the middle of November at Paul Derda. This practice is not mandatory but encouraged if your daughter is not practicing at another gym. Unfortunatley we can't begin this practice any sooner because there is not gym time or coaches available because of other classes and the remaining HS season. If your daughter is interested in getting in the gym sooner I know there is a Thursday night HS practice at GU being offered.

Post Season Banquet
In the next couple of weeks I'll be looking for feedback and possible venue ideas for our post season banquet. Please let me know ASAP if you have a vacation planned or major conflict in mid-November.

BHS Sports Gala & Booster Rep
We are looking for ideas and resources for the silent auction gift basket that we are required to provide for the Booster Club's Sports Gala in March. If you have any ideas, or better yet, connections to cool items/places/events please let me know. Because of this event our team is usually awarded upwards of $2500-3000 for leotards, spirit packs, equipment, etc. We are also in need of a new parent representative for next year as Ken Claussen has been so gracious and generous to have been our sponsor the past three years. If we don't have a sponsor I get in trouble :) so please let me know if you're available to help.

Secret Sister Week
On Saturday the girls drew names for their Secret Sister. The plan is for the girls to deliver three small ($5 or less) gifts at practice Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday and then bring a big gift ($10 or less) to the meet on Saturday. These are fun, small gifts and most of the time the girls can do something nice for the less than the set amount. Hit the dollar bins at Target, decorate a picture frame, etc. We went over ideas yesterday with everyone so the girls should have some ideas.

Race For The Cure
I have 8-10 people signed up for the Race next Saturday but want more!! The event in next Sunday at 8am and we'll probably take RTD. Don't forget to help raise money too...check the email I sent earlier this week for the links.

Season Rankings

Celebrate what you've accomplished, but then raise the bar a little higher each time you succeed.
-Mia Hamm

We always preach "TEAM FIRST" but it also exciting to see the individual success' we are having throughout the year. The first rankings of the season are out and we are looking pretty good! The girls have been doing a great job at continuing to push themselves and not settle for early accomplishments. It's a long season and it's not unheard of for teams starting at 170 to improve 10 points at state so we have to continue to work hard.

Weekly Schedule:
Monday                 Practice                      3:30-6:00pm
Tuesday                 Practice                      4:00-6:00pm

                                                                 5:50pm           March In

Our first meet is already here!!! Please have ensure the girls are at the gym at 3:30pm on Thursday. We do have to set up the gym for the meet (move bleachers, extra mats, etc) and open gym is at 4:15pm. We try and march in at 5:50pm so that competition can start at 6:00pm. Typically dual meets are over in 2 hours but this can vary based on the judges assigned to our meet (i.e. new or inexperienced judges can take longer). After the meet the girls will not be excused until the gym is cleaned up. There isn't a lot of down time at the meets so I encourage the girls to have some snacks after school (even if it's on the way and during set up).

DON'T FORGET

  • Competition leo (will be distributed this week at practice)
  • Practice leo (worn with black bike shorts ONLY)
  • Under Armour blue jacket & black capri leggins (for march in)
  • Appropriate undergarments - please try on your leos with your undergarments to ensure no straps are showing (which is a deduction)
  • BHS spirit wear - you are ONLY allowed to wear BHS spirit wear at meets so please bring either your blue tank or t-shirt

Team Dinner:

Our first team dinner will be Wednesday, August 29 at Gabby Dorato's house. We will carpool as a team to Gabby's house after practice (if you don't want your daughter potentially riding with another gymnast please tell her so she can ride with a coach). Plan on picking your daughters or carpools up from Gabby's house around 7-7:15pm.

Gabby's address is 13940 Cortez Court, Broomfield, CO 80020.

Team Pictures:

We are in the process of trying to schedule our team picture...please be advised that I've requested either a Tuesday afternoon (before our evening practice) or a Friday afternoon (other than 9/7 because we have a meet). Please just make a mental note so that when it is scheduled everyone can be in attendance.

Calendar Update

I've uploaded a new calendar because a few typo's were brought to my attention and I wanted to avoid confusion.

The October 9 practice is for everyone as our meet at Niwot on October 10 is our last regular season meet.

The Tuesday practices in October listed in green our TBD...depending on the rec class sizes we may move those practices to the afternoon from 4-6 or they may stay in the evening . We'll make a decision closer to October.

Parents Meeting Follow Up

Thank you for attending tonight's meeting...I really am excited for what will sure to be a fantastic season!

Calendar - I have uploaded what should be a final calendar (barring any mistakes or unforeseeable changes)

Team Dinners - Thank you to the families that signed up to host dinners. If any upperclassmen would like to host or co-host and didn't have the opportunity please let me know ASAP and we can re-arrange. Those hosting dinners please send me your address and written directions so I can distribute them at practice to those driving and to parents. Please note that on these nights you'll need to plan on picking up (or carpooling) your daughters from the hosts house around 7-7:15pm

Snacks - Please plan on providing food for 25 people. This doesn't necessarily mean you need to make 25 sandwiches (although some of you may choose to do so) but instead just enough of something for everyone to feel they have something in their bodies for fuel for the night.

Those in red, please let me know if these dates and items are okay. I felt it best to fill in the first meets and then we can decide how to handle Regionals and State based on those that will be in attendance.

Parent Shirts - Thank you to everyone for your support...can't wait to see our Parent Section at the first meet. Those that ordered shirts please make the checks out to PM Shirts. And if anyone would like to place an order just let me know in the next day or so. BHS shirts can be ordered in long sleeve, short sleeve, royal with white writing or white with royal writing and are $12 each.

We have some "Super B" shirts in small and medium left for $10 each.

Spirit Packs - All but a few were able to pay me for the spirit packs...THANK YOU! If you haven't paid please bring a check in by the end of the week. The balance for new comers to the team is $126 and returning members is $86.

THANK YOU!
Erika, Bob & Whitney

Weekly Update - August 19

Weekly Schedule

Monday           Practice                            3:30-6:00pm
Tuesday           Practice                            4:00-5:30pm
                        Parents Meeting                5:30-6:30pm
Wednesday      Practice                            3:30-6:00pm
Thursday          Practice                            4:00-6:00pm

Reminder...the Rec Center is closed this week for maintenance so we encourage parents to wait outside the building for pick up or come immediately down to and inside the gym. The center will be in disarray and staff doesn't want girls or parents wondering around.

Parents Meeting
Please plan on having at least one parent attend this meeting. We will be covering a LOT of information pertinent to our competition season including....

  • Team rules and athletic code of conduct
  • Meet schedules/information
  • Team dinner/snacks rotation
  • Roster/phone list
  • Booster Club
  • Spirit Packs
This meeting will be held in the gym at Paul Derda. Please try your best to arrive on time; because of the Rec closure we will meet you at the front door and try and escort everyone down to the gym.

Spirit Packs
All of our spirit pack gear is in and ready to distribute to the girls (which they are very excited about)! I always try hard to find good quality products for a good value and this year was no exception. This year's spirit packs include:
  • Alpha Factor sleeveless warm up leotard
  • Under Armour hoodie
  • Under Armour tank (given out at the car wash)
  • Under Armour nap sack
  • Team t-shirt
  • Under Armour zip up jacket (new team members only)
Returning members not needing a new jacket will pay $86
New members (including jacket) will pay $126

Because of our success at the car washes and the support of our BHS Booster Club we were able to essentially purchase the tank leos ($60 value) instead of passing that cost on to you.  So, for the amount listed above you are receiving over $200 worth of gear that the girls get to keep!

Please send a check with your daughter to practice or bring to the parent's meeting on Tuesday night. You can make your check out to BHS Gymnastics.

Stay in the loop....
Don't forget to input your email in the "Follow By E-mail" option on the right hand side of the page to receive email notification everytime I post an update on the website! As always if you have any questions or concerns please let me know!

Week 1...Week of August 13

Car Wash Fundraiser
Thanks to everyone for your help at the car wash, especially if you had friends and/or family attend. We raised $600 on Saturday and that money will go directly towards your spirit packs.

What is a spirit pack? Your spirit pack will consist of a t-shirt, sweatshirt, tank, gym bag and sleeveless leotard that you will wear throughout the season to school, team events and meets. Everything in the spirit pack is yours to keep, including the Alpha Factor tank leo. The school asks that we limit these spirit packs to $100 but because we purchase the individual tank leos we tend to go over that amount slightly which is why we do a couple of additional fundraisers. My goal this year was to get every girl $50 towards their spirit pac leaving the remaining balance at $100. I'll have the final dollar amount for you at the parent's meeting on the August 21, and the money will be due by August 28.

2012...BOOM!

Can you believe summer is already over and our season is just over a week away? We had a great time at our Ripped and Ready camp last week and overall it's been a productive summer with a lot of new faces. I speak for all of the coaches when I say we are excited to get the season started!

This is your go-to site for the season, I'll be posting weekly updates with our weekly schedule and important reminders as well as where you can find all of the important information/forms you may need to reference throughout the year. Also, please sign up for the "follow by email" function so that you'll be emailed every time I post something new. I've also created a Facebook page that I've asked all of the girls to follow so they are in the loop and have access to everything as well. Communication is a two way street and I expect the girls to know what's going on as well. The Facebook group is Broomfield Eagles Gymnastics and you are welcome to join as well.

As a parent we ask that you be as involved in your daughter's high school career as possible and specifically our girls are always hoping for a true "parents section" at all of our meets. So please, don't be shy, get to know each other and cheer loud!
